I don't think so, I don't see why someone would be banned for using symbols anyways. But how do you type those in MS in the first place? Do you have to type it in an external application and then Copy-Paste, or is there an easier way?

Of course not.
The only thing you would be banned for that has to do with the chat box is either harassment or a curse hack, but 100% not using symbols.

I'm pretty sure you can't use those names in your character name. I couldn't put a hyphen (-) in my character's name but it wouldn't let me, saying that it only allows letters and numbers in names.

You can insert a carriage return symbol between letters to make the game think you're not cursing. For example, this:

Select it all, copy, and paste into MS. Carriage return FTW! ;)
