I had to buy my own books for high school too. Most private schools do this because a) they often use newer editions of text books and b) they don't receive much state funding.
Also, Kag, what I'm saying is that it doesn't matter HOW many times a book has been used. All that matters is quality. A "good" quality book that's been used 12 times will sell at the same price as another "good" quality book that's been used just once. Even if you end up with a crap quality used book and sell for very little (or none), it'll probably still be cheaper than buying a new one and reselling at a standard used price.
