This picture is creepy and that man's lips were drawn with a pen summoned from the depths of HELLLLLL
Even though everyone in my family has a PhD, I don't feel like I want to get one... not least because it's become so evident that despite putting decades of your life into the study of a particular field you can still be denied a job. Lesser degrees haven't become worthless yet, though.
Also, you can't have a society made entirely of professors. Until technology advances to the point where there are no menial jobs, somebody's going to have to take up jobs that don't require years and years and years of higher education.
The problem is that nowadays people dont think of college as a higher voluntary education. Now people view it as a mandatory extension of highschool. thus instead of where some people went to college, now everyone is going to college.
we all are.
the reason for that is because...
back then jobs were like, if you don't have a college degree then that's fine, just start at entry level and work your way up. but if you do have a college degree then that's really awesome and will get you some bonuses.
now it's "we will only take you if you have a college degree, if you dont then you better have some connections".
jobs nowadays are basically making degress a requirement for basically EVERYTHING.
so I emailed my english teacher the link and she replies
I watched a news show a few weeks ago about PhD grads in China who were unemployed and living 5 or 6 in an apartment with no prospects. It was really quite sad to see people who were so hopeful and doing everything "right" with their lives end up so hopeless and frustrated. At least my PhD is in reading education, a field the US clearly leads the world in - oh, wait :( lol Don't let any of this discourage you, though!
