This just pisses me off. You have a whole lot of money to make a huge movie, and not only that, it's based off a Japanese game! And guess what?
There's a scene in Japan in the movie! :O WOW!!
And since it's based on a great hit game in Japan, you MUST show this movie over there too. So I'd be pretty careful to use facts that are correct, not only about the game, but about real-life stuff too.
So what did they do?
Of course! Scribble RANDOM Japanese kanji all over the place so "Japan" actually looks Japanese! ZOMG! AWESOME! A 10 minute consulting in Wikipedia could have given them the necessary kanji to they wouldn't look like total idiots.
But no.
I present you with "Tokyo Metro"
The characters don't have ANYTHING to do with Tokyo. They just say "Night, Sky, Snow, Wind."
夜空雪風 =/= 東京地下鉄
Then "Zatoichi Square". Thought, Fun, Fire, Moon, Star.
Then also the random characters in the street. I don't know what those mean, but they certainly aren't "Caution" or "Stop" which are basically the only characters you'll find painted on Japanese streets.
Sigh... This is the year 2007, technology and information is so readily available and idiots still manage to screw up in an epic manner with a movie of this proportion.
Congrats America.
