Newbie Notes: *UPDATED!(11/20/09)*
Spoiler!
Best advice is to talk to NPC's and do their respective quests. This will probably your best source of earning money(Ely) and experience, as well as free items(mainly potions). Every day you log-in for the first time, you get an extra 50 experience(not percent) for 30 minutes.
Experiencing LAG? It's probably not your fault; all movement is server side, not client side. I don't think there's much you can do until OGPlanet adds more channels/servers.
Strata's Sword Knight Guide:
Spoiler!Strata's Sword Knight guide.
After playing a sword knight in the beta, I decided that that's the class I wanted to be... or a knuckle knight, but whatever.
Anyway, after long hours of science and pornography I have come up with what I deem to be the best guide for One-Handed Sword Knights. Here it is.
Must have skills:
One-Handed Sword Mastery-Novice-Maxed
Important. The accuracy helps, and there's really nowhere else to put these four points.
One-Handed Sword Mastery-Skilled-Maxed
At 1% damage increase per level, for a maximum of 10%, this skill is a must-have. Nothing much to say about it though.
Both Skill Trees-Maxed
Your active, offensive skills are the cheapest skills you have, and the most entertaining, as each does something different and exciting. Some people recommend one tree. Whatever. The 15 extra points you get won't really add much in the way of damage (from other skills, namely in the misc. section), and anyway, once you get the level 40/60 skills that have a lot of cooldown, having another high-caliber ability to throw around makes up for the damage deficiency. Plus, you need them to unlock the Templar skills.... which is really, really g@y.
Stamina Upgrade-Maxed
This skill is fairly important. You should max it anyway since its effect is so useful-- extra stamina always helps (your KB rate, your defence, your HP), but it's also needed to unlock most of the other skills you'll be getting in the misc. section.
Pick one:
- Encouraging Shout 5, Bravery Shout 10 (MAX), Iron Armor 10 (MAX)
Encouraging Shout-level 5You're only getting this to unlock the next skill in the tree. Do this early, as the proceeding skill is one of the best in the Knight book. However, I do have to say that this skill is awesome. Because it's %-based, it will always boost your HP by quite a bit... since you have so much of it anyway. Plus, people love you for this. If I had 5 more points I would max this, but alas...Iron Armor-Maxed
Bravery Shout-Maxed
A lot of players overlook this skill, instead opting for other skills. They shouldn't. When maxed, it buffs your physical and magical damage by 20 points. If you compare that to the Weapon Specialist thing, you'll see that this is more or less the same. Except you save 5 points, and this one makes people beg you to be in their party. It's always nice to share.
This. Is. Great. When maxed, it provides 30% resistance to any physical damage-- except probably floor spikes.
Magic Shell-Maxed
- Iron Armor 10 (MAX), Magic Shell 10 (MAX), Pain Killer 5
While not as great as Iron Armor, this skill is still really very good, giving you 30% resistance to any magical attack, regardless of element.
Pain Killer-5
Ehh. This might be ok. I'm not too sure though. I don't see how healing 25 HP or 20 SP after getting hit would be too useful past level 50 (around the time you'll be getting this skill)-- but I could be wrong.
Weapon Blocking-Max
- Weapon Blocking 10 (MAX), Weapon Specialist1 5 (MAX, 10 Points), Weapon Specialist2 2 (4 points), 1 point left
Ehh again. I dislike this skill. 10% avoidability isn't much, when you can have 30% outright resistance with Iron Armor.
Weapon Specialist1-Max
I dislike this skill as well. Each level costs 2 SP and raises your min damage by 2 points, for a maximum of 10. Why not just get Bravery Shout and have +20?
Weapon Specialist2-2
Same reason given above, and you don't even get to max this one, which sucks.
Or any mix of whatever. You have 25 extra points.
You should now know enough to prioritize certain skills. Some people max Novice Mastery ASAP. I will. It helps with your training almost as much as extra attack does-- at least in the beginning. You should up your Offensive Skills as soon as you get them, and at every level interval until maxed. Between lvl 11-14, when you don't have anything to put into, add into Encouraging Shout. Bravery Shout and the next offensive skills should keep you busy until level 30-ish. When you're done, begin working on Sword Mastery-Skilled and your next set of offensive skills. After you have Sword Mastery-Skilled done, start maxing Stamina Upgrade and then follow up with a defensive skill of your choice (Iron Armor or Weapon Blocking).
Iron Armor or Weapon Blocking?
I don't know. Weapon Blocking does not state wether it is for magical attacks as well as physical ones, or not. It could help your magic evasion. If it's only for physical attacks, max Iron Armor for sure-- it gives you 30% defense. Although you should max Iron Armor anyway, even if Weapon Blocking worked for magic-based attacks-- most of the enemies you'll encounter in game and in PvP use physical attacks, and 30% reduction in damage is a lot. If you choose not to get B.Shout, remember to max Weapon Mastery-Skilled before anything else.
Bravery Shout before One-Handed Sword Mastery-Skilled?
Yes. Since Mastery-Skilled is %-based, you won't be seeing much of an increase in damage until at least somewhere between levels 35-45... whereas Bravery Shout raises your attack by 20. It's the hands-down choice-- and to top it all off, you can share this skill with your party.
Why even get Bravery Shout? Isn't it sorta...
I've thought about this as well. If you don't like it, or think it's useless, then go for another set-- maybe Magic Shell+Pain Relief, or go the Weapon Blocking-route and shun Iron Armor altogether-- but you won't get as big a damage boost out of that build as you would with Shout. Theoretically, the best build stat-wise would be maxed Specialist1/2/B.Shout, but you'll have to throw out an offensive skill tree for that, and as I've already explained, that actually makes you weaker.
Guard Dash? What the crap?
Yeah. You have to go to the Temple of Pluton Violet Stone and save your location. You'll automatically receive this fun little skill called Guard Dash, which does no damage but lets you tackle monsters. It's useful, I suppose, if you're trying to run past the monsters without getting smacked. Just remember there's a target limit on the skill; I think you can only tackle 3 monsters at once. You must have a shield equipped to use this. Protip: you can juggle monsters if you dash at them from just the right distance-- you have to time it so that your Guard Dash ends while you're standing on top of the monster. This also works if you do a Guard Dash against a corner. This skill does not interrupt your running. Costs 20 SP to cast.
My Mini Walkthrough (Because some people might want it):
Spoiler!
(Based on experience from playing as a Knight)
After completing the opening tutorial and newbie area, your character will arrive in the town of Belos. Talk to various NPC's with the red "!" above their heads. These NPC's have quests available for completion. Open your inventory(I) and equip your newbie weapon(Knights are given knuckles). To complete quests(Check your Quest Log(Q) for any quests listed that have a yellow check mark), talk to the NPC(with a yellow checkmark instead of "!") that gave the quest and take your reward. Sometimes, there are multiple rewards to choose from(Ex. the quest "New Emoticon 2" has 3 different rewards, but only one can be accepted). Buy the lowest level armors (Ex. Leather Shirt/Blouse) with the money you earned from the quests. Buy a weapon if you don't like Knuckles or Daggers. Pick a weapon your class can use that you want to use in the long run. Now begin distributing skill points(K) (there is no "right" way to do this; follow the following advice if you want to).
A simple suggestion for skill point distribution:
- 1st skill point in "Novice Mastery" of your preferred weapon.
- 2nd skill point in one of the weapon skills that branches off from the basic mastery(Ex. "Stun Impact").
- 3rd skill point in the other weapon skill(Ex. Mystery Rod), OR 1 point in a Misc. skill instead, OR 1 point in Novice Weapon Mastery(eventually maxing it out).
Hotkey your new skill(s) and potions, and continue to do quests, and buy better armor as you wish. Monsters will occasionally drop armor and/or weapons as well, but don't rely too much on monster drops. You should be able to live off of potions given as quest rewards for a while.
Now go out there and enjoy LaTale! =D
Character-Related:
Spoiler!
- Aside from the obvious differences between male and female characters, the only equips which have gender specifications are the Top/Upper Armor(Shirt/Blouse) and Bottom Armor(Pants/Skirt).
- Pressing the 'Tab' key will switch between two different weapon setups.
- Performing a combo of at least 10("Nice" combo) yields more experience from defeated monsters. Highest combo is 99("Amazing" combo).
- Deleting a character and expecting to use the same name? Sorry, once a name is used, it cannot be used again.(*RUMOR*: emailing OGPLanet will allow you to use the name again. *RUMOR*)
- Afraid of dying? You won't lose any experience of Ely until level 11 and try to go past the Elias Potion NPC, where she will inform you of the death penalty(2-3% exp and some Ely). You can prevent experience loss by having the "Iron Will" item and using it if you die.
- Have some rare junk you don't need? Try buying a Shop License(4-item slots) from an NPC(5,500 Ely). Go to the Free Market, and open up shop and sell your stuff!(Usually Ch.1 is where most people go.)
Skill-Related:
Spoiler!
- Every level up, your character earns 1 skill point. There are no stat points that you can distribute to your character. Stat points are automatically determined from your character's class.
- Saving your location in the town of Elias nets you 1 free skill point. Other Iris stones net you experience proportionate to your level.(Rushing the stones from level 1 will only get you to level 7).
- Learning new skills costs Ely and some have level requirements.
- Skills messed up? Buy a skill reset book for 100k from an NPC. Be aware that you'll still have to pay to relearn your skills. Make sure you have Ely to spare beforehand.
- Skill points reset after job change(Level 80).
- Only explorers have the ability to open those locked chests in the different areas(explorer-exclusive skill).
- Looking for emotes? You'll need to find a guidebook from quests/monsters. Guidebooks have different success rates.
Quest-Related/ Titles:*UPDATED!(11/20/09)*
(More to come)Spoiler!
- Most quests are repeatable; This allows you to rake in more experience,Ely, and/or items.
- Some quests allow you to pick your reward. Check if there are little arrows on the sides of the quest description indicating different rewards.
- You can have a maximum of 15 quests at once(this is one of the in-game tips; I think I had more though)
- "Ancient Forest Adventure" requires you to walk on random places throughout the Ancient forest maps.
- The "Passage Explorati" in " Wild Boar Hunting Season" requires you to walk behind the shrubbery/trees in the map with the FusuHusu's and Blue Wolves.
- The quest "What We Need Is An Adventure" requires you to die 100 times. PvP deaths count toward the total. Reward is "Indomitable Explorer" title. It provides a 5% defense boost.
- Doing the "Parabola in the Blue Sky" quest? Digging without success? You won't find the flint unless you dig on little mounds of dirt(clearly different from normal ground). Be careful, as the area containing flint has a lot of bats. You won't be able to dig/pickup flint if the bats keep hitting you.
- To get the "Broad Jump" skill, complete the level 26 quest "Doo Da Da Jump!" from the NPC Jangjin. Similar to "Parabola in the Blue Sky," the areas needed to be dug are indicated by small dirt piles.
- "Find Nana's" quest requirements are as follows: Walk left 999 times, Walk right 999 times, Run left 999 times, Run right 999 times. Reward is "Wanderer" title. It provides a movement speed increase by 10%.
- "In and Out's" quest reward is the "Behemoth Adventurer" title. It provides a back attack damage bonus of 10%.
- "The Fruits of Adventuring" quest reward is the "JumpJump" title. It provides a 10% damage boost to jump attacks. Jump 50 times facing left, and 50 times facing right to complete this quest.
- "Great Hero" title can be obtained from the quest in which you defeat 99 Fake Great Monkeys, and get 30 Monkey Tails. It provides and HP recovery rate increase while resting by 15%, as well as an SP recovery rate increase while resting by 15%.
- "Multiplayer" title is from the quest "Hidden Ring." It provides maximum damage boost of 5%, and a movement speed boost of 5%. It is rumored that completing this quest requires you to be in a party for 3-5 hours.
- "Snow Lady" title is from a skill book, as is "Wind's Child." "Snow Lady" provides a 5% boost in Stamina and Magic, while "Wind's Child" provides a 5% boost in Strength and Defense.
- "Night Falcon" title is from a level 80 quest. It provides movement speed + 13%
- "Jack and the Beanstalk" title is from a level 63 quest. It provides HP + 150 and SP + 70.
- "Wilderness Adventurer" title gives +5% maximum physical damage, while reducing evasion rate by 5%.
- The level 34 quest "Where is Lemy?" gives the title "Rope Dancer" upon completion. The title increases Rope/Ladder movement by 50%.
Night Falcon title is Night Owl, it's from a level 80 quest from Levi, who is inside of that portal in the Elias palace. You need completion of the Pandora scenario to get in. He tells you to go to Owl Castle54, and talk to theNinja MasterShadow Ninja King(lol) NPC there. You can use the mini-map to check if that's the right one, I'm not 100%.- "King of Shopping" title gives 3% physical/magical critical damage and accuracy. It has a 1/1000 chance of being learned(can be learned from a guidebook only).
- "God Of Shopping" title gives 4% physical/magical critical damage and accuracy, plus an additional activation effect for 15% more critical damage. It has a 1/10000 chance of being learned(can be learned from a guidebook only).
Classes(I redid this!):
Spoiler!
There is no "Beginner" class in this game. You pick which class you want to start as during character creation. 2nd Jobs are availiable at level 80. Skill points reset after job change.
Please look at this for an overview of the classes:
http://latalers.com/guides/job-tree-guide
The 5 Basic classes are:
Warrior- The "Melee" damage dealer, uses Two-Handed Swords or Spears. Can Advance to a Warlord or a Blader(uses Dual blades).
Knight- The "Tank" class, uses One Handed Swords or One Handed Clubs or Knuckles. Can Advance to a Templar Knight, or Guardian(uses Knuckles only).
Wizard- The "Magic" class, uses Staves. Can advance to Sorcerer(Uses Orbs) or a Bard(uses Guitars).
Explorer- The..."Critical Hit" class(Lol), uses Bows, Crossbows, or Daggers. Can advance to a Treasure Hunter, or a Gunslinger(uses guns only).
Engineer- The "average" class, uses Toolboxes. Can advance to a Meister(uses a giant robot), and something that uses toolboxes? I'm not sure if there's a second advance. My bad.
Crafting Types(NOW RELEASED!!!):
Spoiler!
This reflects the current state of crafting:
(The following descriptions are kind of old.)Originally Posted by Brigade

Easiest>Hardest in terms of leveling
Weapon Crafting
* Pros: You get to make weapons, and since crafting may cause the item to gain bonus stats this is really nice. You can also craft rare weapons.
* Cons: You will need the help of a materials crafter to make rare weapons to make a “kit” to make the special item. This means after working hard to get those soul urns there are two chances to fail before you can have the equip
Armor Crafting
* Pros: You get to make armor, and since crafting may cause the item to gain bonus stats this is really nice. You can also craft rare armor sets that when worn collectively cause sweet stat boosts. You will be one of the most in demand of all crafters.
* Cons: You will need the help of a materials crafter to make just about anything… and you will be one of the most in demand crafters so you may be busy with all your crafting request from friends.
Accessory Crafting
* Pros: You get to make accessories, and since crafting may cause the item to gain bonus stats this is really nice. You can also craft the goblin accessory sets which for a level 10 set, are really freaking sweet. you can craft most things on your own.
* Cons: You won’t be in demand much so it may be harder to level up your crafting level.
Alchemy (potions)
* Pros: You get to make your own potions. You will be able to craft everything on your own. You will also be needed to make some things so that the materials crafter can make kits. essentially you are the bottom of the crafting ladder.
* Cons: You won’t be in demand much (kits will not be needed to be made often as soul urns are very rare) so it may be harder to level up your crafting level.
Materials Crafting
* Pros: You’ll be making materials such as kits, and strings so the other crafters can make things. You can also refine ores to be better ores to make things easier for the other guys as well. You will be well in demand so leveling up your crafting level shouldn’t be hard
* Cons: Your crafting produces nothing of any real use so you’ll always need someone else to make it useful since it has to be crafted once more before it can be made into something of use.
