[uninformed opinion]It basically is. A high school degree was worth a lot more thirty years ago than it is now; you need a degree for just about everything now that isn't a McJob.[/uninformed opinion]

It sure would explain why ever since going to college I've felt like the crowd are the exact same people from high school, just a little older.

I'd definitely say they are linked, but I don't believe they have to be, however in this case yes they probably are. A shame it is too, having more PhDs means nothing if the quality of the education and the standard is lowered.

the reason for that is because...

back then jobs were like, if you don't have a college degree then that's fine, just start at entry level and work your way up. but if you do have a college degree then that's really awesome and will get you some bonuses.

now it's "we will only take you if you have a college degree, if you dont then you better have some connections".

jobs nowadays are basically making degress a requirement for basically EVERYTHING.
Well my reason is actually because high school didn't really satisfy my learning, I want more. The internet isn't the same as an actual education to me, I want to learn what there is to learn about what I want to learn in a class room, and when I'm' done learning what I want to learn there I'll take it elsewhere. Learning is good.

The college degree isn't really a requirement if you have experience, but again it goes in the same viscous circle I suppose.

Lucky. Mine is made of brass instruments and trees

(No, seriously. The music building exterior is a haven for practicing trombonists much to the chagrin of passersby

    also there are trees)

We have brass trees at my university!

Seriously, we have brass sculptures of trees all over. It cost something stupid like $1mil back when there was a massive surplus

    1. Limit the number of Ph. D's
    2. Change society to handle the amount of Ph. D's (such as becoming more automated)

Still, remember 34,000 out of billions and billions of people is still not alot. One of the main reasons why the system can't handle it is because of capitalism. Buy cheap, sell high.

    I know I am going to get my Ph. D... well, because if I don't, ill be the only one in my family without one... ;_;
Seriously, what?!? Back in the Stone Age, all people had to worry about was staying alive. Now in this educated "better" world, half the population is deeply afraid of being homeless, because they don't know how to survive outside the city. When 15+ years of your life given to "education" (none of which teaches you practical skills, like how to grow your own food, clean your apartment to code, or the skills of any job that isn't just typing letters/numbers/hex) are seen as a mandate for success, and for that matter, survival, something is deeply wrong here.

I got out of college, and went to work for a guy who cleaned carpets, who had no degree. You know the only thing I noticed about myself, different from him? I knew stuff about history and literature. And mebbe could work a computer a bit better.

If you want to see the real side effects of over-education, go to some place like Seattle. I heard even some of the people bagging groceries had like a Masters. And, the Japanese, as much as I like them, are repressed to the point where they often have deviant sexual urges.

What's this about brass trees? Mine are made of gold.
