What are the total specs of each laptop? Lenovo and Acer are both decent companies.
And by total specs I mean more than just the name of the cpu.
We went to look at laptops and my parents decided on 1 of the 2.
I wanted this: Lenovo IdeaPad U310 13.3" Ultrabook featuring Intel Core i3-3217U Processor - Grey
They wanted this just because it was lighter (weight): Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook featuring Intel Core i3-2377M Processor (S3-391-6844) - Champagne
Give me a reason why I should chose Acer instead of Lenovo, but seriously I think Lenovo is way better

Acer: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ.../10206028.aspx
Here are the specifications
The Lenovo has better hardware than the Acer. Bigger SSD for the operating system, better graphics (barely), faster RAM, better CPU, and more USB ports. However, the Acer has a higher battery capacity than the Lenovo. So you'll have a shorter battery life on the Lenovo. If you bring your power cable to class chances are you'll find a power outlet somewhere in the classroom.
The Lenovo has a mass of 1.6kg as compared to the Acer which is 1.36kg. That's pretty insignificant and both are already very light computers.

Ok thanks for the advice, I still need to see what my parents say but it doesn't mean I won't consider what you've said and Blankaex I actually used an acer computer before, hoping to get something new
acer is a bad company. lenovo is fine.
every acer computer i've used has been **** tier, both desktops (x2) and one laptop.
dont get it mixed up with ASUS, which is great. lenovo is okay, i haven't really seen many of them but from what i've heard (friend has one) it's pretty tanky.

I'm the one that brought a monster machine to class for 3 years until my mom stopped using her netbook and gave it to me. Battery issues aren't that big anymore. Your classroom always has many power outlets for you to use so sit close to one! Use the battery only when you need to look at something quick or you're at the food court or something. Sleep mode is your friend.

Original question wasn't even about ASUS, btw. That was brought up as some weird side thing that was completely unnecessary. Deleting this weird side convo...
Keeping Cliff's relevant post though.
Spoiler!
But that lenovo had pretty bad reviews.
