Rescue: The Beagles

As the title would suggest, Rescue: The Beagles is a game about saving the dogs known as beagles. Controlling one of two characters, players will maneuver themselves through each level saving "X" number of beagles, all while using parachutes, climbing ropes, and throwing owls at the opposition. Hoot Hoot.

Controls are actually very simple, and take just minutes to get the hang of. Arrow keys control the player's character, with the up arrow key for jumping, down arrow key for jumping down. The Z, Ctrl, or, Space key will fire any owls the player has collected. To use a parachute(denoted by the "orange and black striped box), players need to press the down arrow key twice, and to use a climbing rope(denoted by the "silver rope" looking item), press the up arrow key twice. And that's it for the controls!

As players begin to play the game, they'll notice that the game has three "levels" or areas, to which the player can traverse. The area closest to the foreground(the darkest area), the lighter colored middle area, and then the lightest colored background area. Jumping and climbing between these, collect the beagles by simply running into them. By collecting a "medical kit," running into an injured beagle(the ones that are bleeding and not moving), will give bonus points. However, if a beagle reaches the left side of the screen and passes it, players will lose a life. Luckily, if a beagle is nearing the left side, a red circle will blink, telling the player "Hey, you forgot this one!" If there is an enemy in your way, like an evil scientist, throw an owl or two at them to dispatch them quickly. Don't run into enemies, or the player will lose a life. Also, red "blobs" cannot be destroyed so avoid them at all costs. After acquiring the required number of beagles, the stage ends and score is totalled. Items are reset for the following stage, with any unused items going toward the player's score for the previous stage. Point bonuses are given depending on how the player progressed in the stage.

Game is playable in FullScreen and Windowed modes, but initially runs in FullScreen. Also supports the use of a gamepad.

FINAL VERDICT: Rescue: The Beagles is a really fun arcade-y style game. There is a high score table as well, so players can see just how good they are at saving puppies. There is a story to the game as to why players are saving puppies, and everyone should read it(it's part of the game menu options). Woof Woof!
