id Software purchased by Zenimax, parent company of Bethesda
Surely you've played at least one game from id Software or Zenimax. Doom, Quake, Oblivion, Fallout? All one company now.
Two of the greatest game studios around that have released hit after hit are now one entity. Today, Zenimax, parent company of Bethesda, whose games include Oblivion and Fallout 3, has stated that it will be acquiring id Software, famous for the Doom and Quake series.
John Carmack stated in an interview with Kotaku, "We're really getting kind of tired competing with our own publishers in terms of how our titles will be featured," Carmack said. "And we've really gotten more IPs than we've been able to take advantage of. And working with other companies hasn't been working out as spectacularly as it could. So the idea of actually becoming a publisher and merging Bethesda and ZeniMax on there [is ideal.] It would be hard to imagine a more complementary relationship. They are triple A, top-of-the-line in what they do in the RPGs. And they have no overlap with all the things we do in the FPSes."
What does this mean for id Software's upcoming title, 'Rage'? Apparently, this is not going to affect plans for the upcoming games that were already slated for release, such as Wolfenstein and Rage.
