We do not have a "socialist" system in any true sense of the word, at least not anymore.
Charter schools are socialist in that the administration is comprised of immediate communal groups, but the funding is obtained through "equally" allocated tax dollars. I use the term "equally" loosely, in that the funding is distributed to balance the schools' individual needs. The plan we have now does not not work on a case-by-case basis, and therefore presents diminished equality (and is not socialist).
The film emphasized a need to revamp the systems in a way that would alleviate the issues already dealt with by unions. If you did an ounce of research, you'd know that most union members support this type of education revamp (which was a major inaccuracy/missed point in the film). In those systems, "unions" are built into the structure, and eliminating the bureaucracy would be a given.
The problem arises with the negative connotation associated with "liberal" and "socialist" (thank you, giant ***got Rush Limbaugh).
Every moron rises up in 'merican protest at the idea of equal "redistribution", even though all we do now is "distribution".
Now do you understand why a single perspective is inaccurate?

Wrong. Other way around. Union members are individuals. Many public schools have a union clause where they pay into the union, like it or not. Ask my mom about this (she had to pay into the NEA when she switched from a private school career to a public school one). Then ask her about "No Child Left Behind" if you really wanna piss her off. The union itself however, is led by various a-holes like we saw in the film. Guys, c'mon you always talk to me about logic, but seem to lack common sense. I don't do research, but I know what does and doesn't make sense. If a person is part of a union which is pushing for tenure and job security (which is the big thing of ANY union, security and perks), they are NOT in favor of a revamp. If they are in favor of a revamp, they either aren't in the union, or if so like my mom it was "join/pay us or don't teach." Or they don't have a clue what the union actually wants because they are ****ing idiots who should be taught by their students. How much research, really, does it take to reach that conclusion?
...I'd like the return of apprenticeship system. You wanna learn a trade? Just go to an expert, and watch them. School should be public, but just teach reading, math, and writing, along with a few basics of all trades (how to plant stuff, basic science to the point where you don't do stupid stuff like dunk your hand in water while holding live electronics, and the fundamental knowledge so your kid won't be a useless 'tard). And teach that as long as it takes to reach proficiency. All these levels, junior high, high school, college, etc are meaningless if they don't reach anywhere, so just dispense with them and have elementary schooling which is actually covering the info considered elementary (basic). After that, merge the upper levels into "college," and so just have elementary for the average person who needs the basic skills for any trade, and college for the full liberal arts knowledge. Other than that, technical schools for heavy stuff that has a really large knowledge base (medicine for instance). College costs would probably drop big time due to lower demand.

Apprenticeship system doesn't work that great. Some of the best people in a trade are terrible teachers.

Yeah screw learning how to be critical thinkers, just go to school to learn how not to kill yourself and you're set.
Even if he's not too chatty, all it really takes to teach is just "(grunt) watch what I do." After that, it's your failing as a student, not his as a teacher.
Critical thinking is something you learn by, duh, thinking critically in regard to problems. If you teach it, aren't you destroying the property of critical thought? If you're teaching the kid what to think when thinking critically, therefore they're not thinking critically (they aren't finding the truth/falsehood of a line of thought, they're taking your word for it). Waste of time.
You should know that in Nationstates today, I made it so only gays can join the army.I like the army.
