1337 and leet still sound so stupid to me.
leet makes you sound like a psychotic bird.
1337 makes you sound like a data processor.
I tolerate 'pl0x' from one person only, and that's 'cause he's a friend. I wish I knew where it came from, though. Otherwise, 'pl0x' and 'plz' are generally ignored (and sometimes mocked), unless I'm in a good mood.
I'm pretty sure zomg (Shift+omg, people miss the shift and hit the z) and pwned (missed the o) came from typos, were used for a while to mock n00bs and people who used the expressions too much, then became part of the lingo when everyone else caught on. 'Lawl' was (?) a form of mockery against people who used 'lol' too much. So is stuff like 'omgwtf[insert random acronym of choice here (e.g., bbq, ussr, hbo] and 1's and 'one's (or 2's, 'eleven's, etc) mixed in with excessive exclamation points!!!11!!!1!one1
Leet/l33t/1337 comes from 'elite' (eh-leet), and as I heard it was originally something hackers did, before that MegaTokyo crap (imho, it's crap; you make think differently) made it popular with all the stupid n00bie fangirls/fanboys... then l33t spread faster than the bubonic plague. -_-
As for original internet slang, such as lol, brb, and all that fun stuff, it was devised to cut shorter typing time. It was certainly convenient when playing things like MUDs and you wanted to tell people really quickly whatever it was you wanted to say.

i heard that "plox" is usually used to indicate the sarcasm. so it would basically mean "ur my idol" (sarcasm) so that person was probably making fun of ur brother of his low-lvledness(?)Originally Posted by Hitsugaya
