    1.Introduction

    a.Why choose Mages?

Out of the four class in Maplestory and a Mage is the only class that has a
powerful magical attack and defence, it is also the only class that can
attack from close-range and long-range. Lastly, it is also the richest class from lvl 18 to 47.
So that is why a mage is the best choice to choose if you are
playing Maplestory for the first time.

    b.pros and cons of Mages

    Pros:

    * Can attack with range.
    * They are by far the most powerful class during the 1st job advancement.
    * You will level very fast after level 15.
    * They have loads of Mp.
    * They have ridiculously fast Mp recovery rates.
    * Magic Claw can attack through walls.
    * After 2nd job they can teleport, and absorb their enemies Mp while you attack.
    * Can use Mp as Hp once they max out Magic Guard, meaning they can take a lot more hits without dying.

    Cons:

    * Cannot truly jump and attack ( it can be done though, to an extent)
    * Have the lowest Hp of all classes.
    * Some people don't like mages as they have a reputation as (ksers) "meaning you steal they're kills", so be prepared for some people who will be rude to you.
    * Tend to get weaker after the 2nd job advancement compared to the other classes.
    * Taking damage from your Mp bar is costly when magic guard is on, Mp potions essentially cost twice as much as Hp potions, so be prepared to pony up
some cash if you have magic guard on.

c.pros and cons of F/P Mages

    Pros:

    * Highest damage spells out of all the 2nd job mages.
    * Poison can be very effective against high level enemies if used correctly.
    * High damage against Ice based enemies.

    Cons:

    * Cannot heal or freeze enemies (obviously).
    * Do poor damage against fire based enemies (obviously).
    * Poison can be hard to use properly.
    * Fire Arrow is blocked by terrain.
    * Some enemies are strong against, or even immune against Poison.

d.pros and cons of I/L Mages

    Pros:
    * Can Freeze enemies (obviously).
    * High damage against Fire based enemies (obviously).
    * Thunder is Strong against Water enemies and is a mob skill (obviously).
    * Ice Mages make more mesos then Fire Mages (usually)
    * Cold Beam can go through walls and terrain.

    Cons:
    * Lower damage then Fire Mages.
    * Do poor damage to Ice based enemies (obviously).
    * Thunder is very costly to use.
    * Cannot Heal (obviously).

    e.pros and cons of Clerics

    Pros:
    * Can Heal (obviously).
    * Are essential in parties (obviously).
    * Do High damage with Holy Arrow against Dark/Devil based enemies (obviously).
    * Heal can be use as a Mob skill to damage zombie(dark) based enemies.
    * Has the skill invincible, to help stay alive.

    Cons:

    * Cannot use the skill Meditate.
    * Without Holy Arrow, magic claw becomes their only true offensive skill.
    * Cannot Freeze or Poison (obviously).
    * lower base damage then Fire or Ice Mages.

    2.Getting Started

    a.Beginning Stats

If you have decided to be a mage, you should need to know what stats you
need to have to be a perfect mage. Reroll the stats if you find that the
stats are not perfect until you get the perfect stats. This usually takes
about 15 mins to half an hour unless you are lucky so please be patient.

    Perfect Mage Stats:
    Str - 4
    Dex - 4
    Int - Higher then Luk
    Luck - Lower then Int

if you have no patience whatsoever, at least try to have this as your stats

    Almost perfect Mage Stats:
    Str - 4/5
    Dex - 4/5
    Int - Any
    Luck - Any

NOTE: make sure when you are level 8, you have at least 20 INT, or you cannot advance as a magician.

The Stats Addition for mage is this :
+3 Luk your lvl, Rest in Int

    Exp:lvl 10 = 13 luck, lvl 23= 26 luck, lvl 34= 37 luck

    b.Where to train?

You should train with green snails and blue snails from lvl 1 to 8 unless you are
doing a quest, as mage's physical attacks is not very strong. Even though your
attack isn't very strong, do not put any points into Str, as Str does not
help anymore when you are a mage, and will accually make you weaker.

    --------------------------

    3.1st job advancement

    Short Stack

    a.How to be a magician

To be a magician, you need to be at least lvl 8 and have at least 20 INT. If
you have all that, go to South Perry and board the ship to Lith Harbor for 150 mesos.
Then you must go to ellinia, town of magician, to get here, you can
either walk (not recommended) or take the taxi from lith harbor for 120 mesos.
After all this then go to the house at the very top of the map.
You will see a NPC named Grendel The Really Old inside. Talk to him to become you will be a magician.

This is remarkably not recommended for all mages, as it takes hours, upon hours to even get your first magic attack.
The end result is a mage with a higher max mp then most other mages, giving you an advantage.

This is the cheapest way, while still being able to very good build. It saves tons of mesos.

The basic concept behind this, is that you get your character's INT up to 20, which is the minimum INT needed to make the 1st job advancement to a magician. After that, keep your DEX 4 points above your current level, and dump the rest into STR. By doing this, you get a magician that uses physical attacks instead of magic (Keeping up with all three stats is a dumb idea. One way or the other).

My STR Pizard is currently lvl 23. Because I wanted to PQ, I put 5 points into DEX, starting at lvl 21. This allows me to hit everything in the PQ properly, If I supply myself with acc pots aswell. When I hit lvl 24, I'll go back to my regular schedule of SP distrobution.

This is a fun class. Seriously. At first I thought it was gonna turn into another super-beginner-like class, and that it was gonna end with me quitting it and going back to the most boring Cleric on earth. But it didn't. It ended up being a class you can play seriously, with no drawbacks (As of now >_>).

    Why not max Magic Claw/Bolt?
The fact is, your INT rating sucks. Even if you DID max these things, you wouldn't have any use for them. You couldn't hit anything, seeing as how your Magic accuracy depends on your INT levels, not your DEX levels. The reason I didn't go for claw, and instead went for bolt, is because Claw is VERY weak at low INT levels. Your claw is gonna do CRAP damage at lvl 4, seeing as how you've gotta put that extra point into bolt before you get to claw. Another reason to go bolt.

Yeah, but why the other skills?

Why Max MP Increase? Because your gonna need a big MP bar to take all those physical attacks you'll be getting. Why not max Improving MP Recovery? Thats really is only needed if your using magic attacks 24/7. Seeing as how your attacking, you really aren't gonna need to be recovering MP all that fast. You COULD go Boltless, and put the remaining points into this skill, but it really isn't needed, and doesn't give you a great boost in any department.

Why max Magic guard/armor? These skills own for what you specialize in doing. Getting hit. Face it. A mage doesn't have the largest DEF rating, or a HP bar for that matter. Your gonna need all you can get to keep you alive, right? So you max these two skills and BOOM. +40 DEF and 80% of physicals attack directed to your once-useless MP bar. I can't stress maxing these two enough. Think about it. You aren't going to be able to wear ANYTHING. The highest leveled item you'll be wearing is a sauna robe, and you want to scroll that with DEX scrolls, not DEF.

Unfortunatly, I have not made the Pizard job advancement yet. However, I WILL post an AP guide on the second page of this guide, if it ever reaches that high >_>

    -:=:-Training Guide-:=:-

    Level 1-8:

Maple Island all the way. Theres no reason to leave early, seeing as how you don't have the full strength of a warrior. Training here is perfectly fine.

    Level 8-13:

Go to the Tree that grew, and live there for these levels. When you get your first point into bolt, use that. Bolt is stronger than your regular whacking attacks right now, so don't be afraid to use it. But also let it be known that if you run out of MP, you can always whack a monster. That extra STR isn't there for show, you know >_>

    Level 14-17:

Orange mushes. These things spawn well, and provide a good amount of exp for your level. You CAN stay at slimes if you want, but after a while it gets boring. By this level, you should be using your whacks, and not your m.attacks.

    Level 18-20:

If you went for more STR and less DEX, then stay at Orange mushes. Otherwise, move on up a rank and go work on green mushes. These things are great training, with great drops. Be warned it can get crowded with these monsters >_>

    Level 20-24:

This is where your options REALLY open up. Now that your base attack is high, you can go to a variety of places to train. You can go work on horny mushes, roll up on zombie mushes, mess with the blue mushes, or go pig beach until your a little stronger. Yeah, this is the mush stage <_<

    Level 25-30:

Either PQ or Wild boars. Your basically a powerhouse now, so you can go walk around and find the best place for you.

    To be continued

    d.Where to train?

People have always said that they have lost a lot of mesos/potions when they
were training, this is because they have fought the wrong monsters
that are not suitable for their lvl. If you fought the correct monsters, you
will find that you do not lose mesos/potions and you will also find
that you make more money training. So make sure you fight the right
monster that is suitable at your lvl.

lvl 08-15: Snails, slimes at henesys hunting ground 1
lvl 15-20: Orange mushroom at kerning construction site, pigs and ribbon
    pigs at pig beach
lvl 20-30: Green and horny mushroom at Ellinia tree dungeon, kerning party
    quest (lvl 21-30)

    a.How to be a F/P Wizard?

To become a F/P Wizard, you must be at least lvl 30 and you must first go
back to the NPC named Grendel the Really Old and talk to him. He will tell
you about how stronger you are and all the craps. Then he will ask you if
you want to be stronger than you are now, accept it. He will ask you to find
the magician instructor at the very top of forest north of ellinia. Once you
reach there and talked to the magician job instructor, you will be taken to
a place where you are supposed to fight curse eyes and horned mushrooms which
are stronger than normal to get 30 dark marbles. The monster inside will not
give any EXP and items but only dark marbles. Once you collected 30 dark
marbles, talk to the magician instructor and he will give you a proof of
hero. Bring the proof of hero bank to Grndel the Really Old and he will ask
you to choose from Fire/Poison Wizard, Ice/Lightning wizard and Cleric. Choose Fire/Poison wizard.

    a. How to be a F/P Mage?

To become a F/P Mage, you must first be at least lvl 70 and go talk to a NPC
named Robeira in the Chief Residence of El Nath. Fly Back to Victoria after
talking to Robeira and talk with Grendel the Really Old. He will tell you to
go to the Door of Dimension which is at forest of evil 2 (check
hidden-street if dunno where it is) to fight the dark side of him. You will
be bought to a place called "The Path of the Glittering Crystal" and are
given 20 minutes to defeat him. Once defeated him, you will obtained a Black
Charm. Go back to Grendel the Really Old and exchange the Black charm for a
Necklace of strength. Return to El Nath and give the Necklace of strength to
Robeira. After that, go to Holy Ground at sharp cliff 2. You required 1 dark
crystal in order to answer 5 questions to receive a Necklace of wisdom. Be
careful, if you get any question wrong, you need another dark crystal to
answer the 5 questions again. Head back to Robeira and give her the Necklace
of wisdom and you will be advance as the F/P Mage.

Build #1: Ice and Thunder Build (The DDD award goes to..you!) ( I would NOT! recommend this. I'm
only putting it here to show you how you don't need to specifically follow any build; it's YOUR mage,
but seriously , follow my guide xD.)

    5. 3rd Job Advancement

    a. How to be a I/L Mage?

To become a I/L Mage, you must first be at least lvl 70 and go talk to a NPC
named Robeira in the Chief Residence of El Nath. Fly Back to Victoria after
talking to Robeira and talk with Grendel the Really Old. He will tell you to
go to the Door of Dimension which is at forest of evil 2 (check
hidden-street if dunno where it is) to fight the dark side of him. You will
be bought to a place called "The Path of the Glittering Crystal" and you are
given 20 minutes to defeat him.
Head back to Robeira and give her the Necklace
of wisdom and you will be advance as the I/L Mage.

(hint: Bring 50 white potions, 65 mana elixers and 100 blue potions just be be safe)

To become a Cleric, you must be at least lvl 30 and you must first go
back to the NPC named Grendel the Really Old and talk to him. He will tell
you about how stronger you are and all the craps. Then he will ask you if

the magician instructor at the very top of forest north of ellinia. Once you

a place where you are supposed to fight curse eyes and horned mushrooms which

you to choose from Fire/Poison Wizard, Ice/Lightning wizard and Cleric. Choose Cleric.

    a. How to be a Priest?

To become a Priest, you must first be at least lvl 70 and go talk to a NPC
named Robeira in the Chief Residence of El Nath.

    ---------------------------------

    10. FAQ (frequently asked questions)

    What is AP?
AP stands for "ability point". Ability points are points that you put on certain stats, which include STR, DEX, INT, LUK, HP, and MP. You get 5 ability points every time you level up.

Why should I try to get the lowest stats on STR and DEX rather than trying to get the highest stats on INT and LUK?
As a magician, you are, by default, weak physically but strong with magic. As you level up, these extra ability points will be useless, and you will be weaker in your magic too. Therefore, we try to maximize your damage by reducing the amount of unnecessary ability points.

I've noticed that I can add AP's to an HP and MP stat. What do they do and is it advisable to add to them?
The HP and MP stats just add to your max HP and MP. I'm not sure how much they add per point and I would not advise adding AP's to them ever.

Why are INT and LUK important for magicians?
INT (Intelligence) is extremely important for magicians because it increases their magic damage and increases your MP count. The LUK helps increase your damage only by a little, but it is a requirement in your equipment, therefore we use as little LUK as possible but enough to wear your level's equipment.
(unless you are a luckless mage/cleric, then by all means, put it all into INT.

    What is a Luckless Mage/Cleric
A Luckless Mage/Cleric is a character who has chosen not to put any AP into luck, but instead to put it all into INT, this is not common to Mages, but some clerics claim it is a great way to go.
The only negative (and its a big one) thing is that you cannot wear any advanced equipment for mages, due to the fact that mage equipment needs +3 luk per lvl.

Why aren't STR and DEX important?
Neither STR (strength) or DEX (Dexterity) is required to wear your equipment. Nor dose it give you any positive attributes for your mage.

    What is SP?
SP stands for "skill points". Skill points are points that you put on certain skills to activate or upgrade them. As a magician, you receive your first skill point at level 8, you receive 3 skill points for every level up.

Unlike what people thing, mages are ok to have in a zak party.

They arn't the best mind you, but if you need one more person, why not add the mage?

They have great attacks at that lvl (well, not compared to D.knights and Hermits, ect ect...) But they can hold thier own. And because Zak uses magic, they have a better chance of surviving then lets say, a Crossbowmen.
