8 is a lucky number in Chinese, 08/08/08 in turn would be a very lucky day. That's why you have the most Chinese mariages today and also the opening of the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Sure it's just another day, but it's superstition, like how western culture finds 7 to be a lucky number while they find 6 to be the devil's number, 13 to be unlucky, etc.
