Hah, that's true. I tried doing everything on a friend's PC, but his 192 MB RAM just wasn't enough >.>
The stuff is cheap too, so it's not like it's hard to get, go grab 2GB of RAM for 70bucks!
Us PC junkies like to keep our computers nice and fresh. Personally, I defrag every night before I go to sleep (I use this thing called Tuneup 2008 that has a quick thing, open it and it does everything at once).
Trust me, just doing the things we said can really help you out, unless your computer is just ancient.

Love What You Hate, So when the time comes, You can Hate what You Love.
Spoiler!
Realistically you're better off with 4gigs than 3, unless you have 2 512MB in your last slots, the reason being that RAM first of all works best if you have the same 2 in the group of slots (slots are in groups of 2), and if you HAVE 2 in the group of slots. 512MBx2 > 1GBx1

Or, unless you're running tri-channel with an AwES0m3 Core i7.
But I doubt it.
Would be hot, but who has the money for that if he thinks 50 bucks is expensive! D:

The most used DDR2 memory frequency, DDR2800, has 4GB (2GB x 2) and 2GB (1GB x 2) models that are on Newegg for less than $50. That's before rebates.
And the "512MBx2 > 1GBx1" can only be achieved when:
1) The motherboard supports dual channel and there are 2 same-colored memory slots
3) You have a PAIR of the same memory. (When you buy memory for dual channel, buy em in pairs. Don't mix and match.)
4) You put one stick of memory in one slot, and you put the second stick of memory in another slot of the SAME color.
I'm guessing you mean the 2GB (1GBx2) is under 50 bucks? If 4GB is that cheap I'm going to hop on that **** RIGHT NOW.
