I think their base damage is lower but, as San-Lzu said, they have more stable damage. Str Bandits can also equip daggers sooner, like the coconut knife.
They also get Khanjars to equip on their Shield Slots to balance out their damage, +It lets you look like your Dual Wielding? :D
