    How much space would you recommend me to partition off for this, planning to use it for school work.

    well, how big is your harddrive?

    If you are going to use it as your main, make it bigger then the other partitioned spaces.

    One day I restarted Xubuntu and when I selected the partion set aside for Xubuntu, the GRUB loader was like a command prompt thing.

    And now I can't load up Xubuntu...any ideas?

    It could be a problem with grub, I'd recommend reinstalling it.

    boot off your live cd, go to synaptic, and uninstall grub

    then got to the terminal and type:

    sudo apt-get install grub

    sudo grub

    > root (hd0,0)

    > setup (hd0)

    > exit



    then proceed

    Okay here's the problem. a Couple days ago I have come across a problem where I cannot update my system, and I cannot install anything from the software center and I cannot find anything on the matter on the ubuntu forums

    Trying to install a game "Mines" from the software center, just as it shows me that it is applying changes I get this:

    and when trying to update my system with "important security updates" i get:

    same thing hapened while attempting to update

    I did a filesystemcheck, and nothing
