I'm still scratching my head as how to fix this, any suggestions would be welcomed.
I tried re-downloading Maple from v0.78 and then manual patching it, but it didn't work. Next, I deleted the client and all of it's folders and then downloaded v0.80 using the older setup and I am getting the "cannot access...." (what the title says).
Operating system: Windows XP
Maple version and latest patch: GMS V0.80
CPU speed, RAM and hard drive size: Intel Celeron 420, 1.5 GB of RAM, 40GB HD
Anti-virus and firewall: AVG
Error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
I know it's not the best computer to run MS on but it has been pretty reliable in the past.

Maybe is your MapleStory.exe had infected with virus, so AVG blocked it and you had no permission to access it. Or just add MapleStory.exe into AVG Firewall Exceptions. Anyway, gratz your problem solved.

Earlsin, what antivirus are you using?
It's possible your antivirus is blocking the game installation from being executed.
