Thread: Loud Buzzing Noise

    Icon8 Loud Buzzing Noise

Typically when I'm not using my computer, I put it into sleep mode. Recently when I start my computer, it tends to make this loud buzzing noise. I think it may be the hard drive. When that happens, I just put it on sleep mode and wake it up until that stops happening. I'm worried that this could be a problem. Does anyone know what's going on?

open the case, a wire might have found it's way into a fan of sorts that turns itself off after the bootup from standby finished

i know my computer makes a loud buzzing sound on bootup because I have a disk in my CD drive.

if not, it is most likely a wire and a fan, if not that, then it might be your HDD.

if no further explanation is found, come back.

Is it high-pitched? If yes, then it most likely is the power supply.

If no, then is it consistent? If yes, then it most likely is a fan (most likely the CPU, but it could be the power supply or other fans).

If no to both questions, it could very well be your HDD or your CD/DVD drive, although they sound more like a rattle than a buzz.

It seems to be the large fan below the PSU fan. Now my computer can't go five minutes without buzzing. Please help.

check if any wire is hitting the fan. and are you SURE that it is that fan?

Could be the CPU fan. It was chock (chalk?) full of dust. Now it is not, but the buzzing continues.

Edit: It's the CPU fan. What do I do?

you can replace the fan if it doesn't stop, but I do think that it is a wire somewhere in there that is making noise.

might want some help with it and take the fan off. You can replace it for like $20 or so.

I nudged the only wires I could see with a q-tip, but the problem still exists. I suppose I'll have to buy a new fan. Until then, I guess I'll have to go on my 360. Now obviously the buzzing is annoying, but do you think it is harmful to my computer?
