I bought it a few days ago
feels good man
So I dig to the bottom of the earth and I reached bedrock. Interesting thing is that bedrock is uneven, so I dug around it. I dug deeper and saw the freakin sky. So I fell in and basically dug a hole through the universe and died. I lost my diamond pickaxe, my three hundred or so iron ingots, my 24 "cuprite" powders, and a bunch of other crap.
So anyway I get back on track, find my home, and start anew. I fin the most massive cavern of all freakin time, and even find more diamond. Then I got stuck in a lava fall and lost everything again.
**** life.
Yes this is a necro, and yes you should still buy this game. This guy basically started making major updates ever since summer started. The trial version doesn't really give you much of an idea of what you can do in this game.

- make pickaxe out of planks and sticks
- dig stone
- make axe and pickaxe of stone and sticks
- make a bunch of stone pickaxes
- find cave

- go to part time job at
strip clu- dig iron
- make iron stuff

- win

Was thinking of playing/buying this game but I'm fairly confused.
For starters, whats the Minecraft Alpha and Classic differences, or generally the whole point of the game? (Is it just build your own stuff, like GMod)
Classic is a combination between the archaic version of alpha, and creative mode (see below). Alpha will become beta, which will become the full game, which will become skynet.
Alpha: Basically you punch trees to get wood, turn that into crap, get stone, make better crap, and mine the **** out of tons of caves. You can toggle between peaceful mode, which has non aggressive cows, pigs, sheep and mini-slimes, and a whole slew of harder difficulties with actual enemies.
You don't really have the power to create stuff except with what you mine, so you have way less control than in GMod. It is also known as "survival mode."
There is also Creative mode which makes you God, and gives you the power to do whatever.
I spend tons of time in alpha. It now has multiplayer (though it just came out) and know that it will only get better.
Edit: Maybe this can explain it better: http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/07/29/co...for-minecraft/
