Default Which is a better training partner for a priest/bishop?

On the one hand, DKs give a number of advantages:

    • Good single enemy damage
    • Decreased need to MG due to HB buff
    • Nice help for certain quests like fighting Manon and Griffey

But depending on your build, I/L mages might be better:

    • Mass attack
    • Ability to freeze enemies, freeing up time for buffs
    • Freeze also helps against lag death.

Since I get lag death (you know, where you lag so much, you can't even heal, and then attacks pile on), I prefer the freeze ability and the mass control to HB (especially since now I barely need it). But what's everyone else's feelings?

(Dammit, I forgot to add the poll, and hit send).

    ....Just post instead.

The I/L will 1hit anything it targets. You'll get crap EXP.

    Until post BB of course.

Out of my time as a priest, my absolute favorite 3 partners were White Knights, Chief Bandits, and Brawlers.

What training map are we talking about?

Himes - I'd say DKs since I'm not too sure about how an I/L would go about it, if he can blizz, he'd be at skeles, if he use CL, the damage decreases across enemies, which isn't very good at himes. Ice Strike/Thunderbolt isn't fast enough, and everything else either hits 1 enemy or hits 3 enemies (ifrit). Cold Demon resets their weakness, which is a con for you, the priest.

It also depends how you're training. If you're doing the standard lure method at himes, the DK would be the greatest benefit for you, because going MGless is actually recommended, but if you have bad lag, you can take several hits with MG and HB. I also trained with priests on my Marauder, although a high level Marauder will kill faster than a DK, so you won't get as many "full" exp kills.

Once you start 2 hitting skelegons with Gen (around 140 for a normal, full luk priest, Gen20, and minimal %int gear), pick any class that can clear the bottom spawn the best while giving you helpful buffs. Meso Up-Night Lord is good if you have autoloots and want to make a bigger profit. Hyper Body-Dark Knight is good if you have lag problems and want to use fewer potions (although either way, you'll pull a profit if you loot, pot costs don't matter much for ult classes once they 2 hit). If you are still having problems with potion costs, just get a leecher and have them pay for your pots. It's better exp for you because of HS, and there are ALWAYS people who want cheap leech.

    Spoiler!

Assuming you can A) leech the enemy, and B) are HS training (in which case yes, he/she will get most of the exp). In Gallos (before the damage is maxed out) this works extremely well, as the I/L sits there and freezes everything, and if you can deal decent SR damage, you're pretty much raking in all spawns that come your way (so long as you keep the I/L buffed with HS of course). It's not perfect, but if the I/L is near your level, you can train somewhat quickly. Still, in my experience, the I/L leveled 3x before I got to 90% and they were roughly 5-10 levels above me (this might have something to do with the fact that at the time, I had no leech as I was 2 underlvl).

The other maps I've trained with I/L were some of the ludi maps (earlier), and certain maps in leafre (usually the centaurs, but anything with freeze works okay).

I imagine the key benefit to training with I/L after 4th would be a sort of top-bottom double ultimate effect, but you'd need something weak to ice and holy.

Gallos eh? Training with an I/L there is alright, but if it's Himes or skeles or anything else, DKs+ are the way to go (unless you get an I/L AM)
