I think there's 48 confirmed deaths, but that was at 12:30pm... I hope it resides. The financial side of it will be awful, multi million pounds worth of damage =< My Australian and Japanese friends are all ok though, so that's slightly less worry for me.

isnt it amazing how an 8.9 to japan is like the equivalent of a 5.5 to just about the entire rest of the world?
what im saying is is that most of the major damage seems to have been fro the tsunami, not the earthquake itself. japan has some awesome earthquake resistance building codes.
