    Some spells.

Any spell that requires you to have a weapon in hand will fail. (Booster is a good example.)

Any spell that doesn't require a weapon will work.

I tested this a after BB hit because it looked to me like magicians could have a great advantage if they used Umbrellas. Umbrellas are 1H Swords and as such, they have a higher multiplier for damage. Thus, if you have a wand with 70 MA and an Umbrella with 70 MA, the umbrella will do more damage. However, none of the spells that do damage would function with the umbrella equipped, and that experiment went down the tubes. (It would have been even cooler if you could somehow wield the Crimson Arcglaive. The Arcglaive has one of the highest multipliers in the game. But, the STR required is impossible and you can't cast any combat spells with it. Poopiness...)
