Making crystals with Alchemy

I'm just starting out with my alchemist and I understand that you can take equips and disassemble them to make certain lvl crystals but my question is, can you take etc items and use them to make crystals or have they completely gotten rid of that ability?

I only ask cause it seems harder for me to find the right equip drops that will allow me to make the crystals so i can make stuff with alchemy.

I think the only way is disassembling equips now.

The skill that we got for 100 etc thing disappear after the Big Bang Patch. =3 Like what he said you can only use equips.
