5/10 and under is fail, so really the only working space you get is 6/10-10/10, which would place 8/10 right at the middle.
I found this article over at bit-tech, and I thought it was interesting. I was always aware of academic grade inflation (something I hate with a passion), but I didn't realize something similar was happening to reviews on the internet. I wonder if there's a correlation in these events? Perhaps grade inflation is making the next generation have inflated expectations about score percentages in everything (not just school) which in turn drives the next generation reviewers (and the current reviewers) to cater to those inflated expectations.
What do you think?

Butts.

At my uni 40% is considered a pass, 4/10, so 8/10 is double pass for my uni. 7/10 is worth a First (The best mark you can get), so... yeah! 8/10 is a good score. I'd be happy if I 8/10'd everything.
To people moaning about 8/10 on a game that was suppose to be excellent like Gears of War 3, Uncharted 3 and Batman Arkham City truly amazing that turns out to be a hate out of ten because berating reviewers who give out an 8/10 is a good score and giving out 10/10s is considered the game of the year.
Rabid Fanboys I tell you.

For reviewing, people should be using the full scale. 6/10 shouldn't be utter **** and 10/10 shouldn't be "meh it's okay".
5/10 should be average, 1/10 should be utter ****, 10/10 should almost never happen.
Butts.

The oddness of canada 1-4/10 is failure. 5/10 is pass. 6/10 is level 2(C-,C,C+) 7/10 is level 3(B-,B,B+) 8-9/10 is level 4(A-,A,A+) 10/10 is 100%which does not exist
Skyrim? It doesn't deserve a ten on any site, anywhere. Personally I'd place it at around 7.5/10, if we're going off of Fail's guidelines. This is just how I feel personally, though.
Games like Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time should be placed at a 10, because personally, that was an amazing game after you become big Link.
I don't know, this is just my input. Here's the deal though, WHY follow a review? I don't make my purchases off of someones' input because they personally don't like it. "I gave Skyrim a 4 because I don't like RPGs"
well what if someone didn't read that, and assumed it was bad? That is exactly why I don't go off of reviews.
I'd give Skyrim an 8.5. Just because it doesn't beat Oblivion doesn't mean it's a bad game.
And if we're talking about marking in general, if you get an 8/10 here at school you've done a pretty damn good job.
