    Default It's computer building time.

    HEY LOOK FANCY EXCEL SHEET
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...VlVekR0a2Y5TFE
To add a part in, ctrl+x the price in the OFF column and move it to ON
To remove a part, do the opposite.

Well, I'm almost done with college and as I've said from time to time that I was planning on building during or after my last year of college. The time has come and my mom is also helping me fund it.

Here's what I got so far. I'll be using it for 2D/3D CAD modeling and of course, gaming.

Better to just look at the spreadsheet. That's more updated.
    Spoiler!

Thank you dae314 for that lovely guide and Omar for some quick advice.

The mobo comes with a standard 8ch integrated solution for your sound. I would suggest you get something better but for all practical purposes it's acceptable.

I also recommend you get a better cooler for your CPU than the default one. The design of the Ivy Bridge series uses a different paste, and thus led to somewhat significantly higher readings for temperatures. The Xigmatek Loki or Cooler Master's Hyper 212/+ is there if you want budget options.

The below are only my recommended pieces, not necessarily better than your picks. Pretty nice looking list you got there, and under $1000!

    Case:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147153
Yours looks good, but I recommend this one. I myself haven't used it, but helped a friend build his PC and he got this one. It's very roomy, and the airflow is great. It's got many of bays, as well. And the PSU is bottom mounted.
    Plus it's $20 cheaper.
Really I'm just giving alternatives, not "Buy this instead of that."

Also, my "personal" recommendation of CPU would be this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103923
Sadly, it is discontinued, but still a great CPU if you deride to get a cheaper alternative.
Been working in blender, and in Vegas Pro 11 with HD videos, and this thing has pulled through strong!

Your list looks pretty solid, too. Under $1,000, and pretty powerful. If I were you, I'd swap the 7870 out for this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130604

That is only if you think you'll do more gaming than rendering, but I don't know what you fancy. An nvidia card is almost necessary to run GTA IV smoothly, in case you decide to play that.

Remember, these are only recommended pieces of hardware, not ones that are necessarily "better" than your, but good alternatives.
Also enjoy building your (first?) real desktop!

Edit: As OTOKO said, an aftermarket heatsink is almost a must nowadays. Especially for my CPU. I recommend the Hyper 212 like he said. :P

I don't think you've even read my post wyatt.

    Your case:
It's smaller and it does not have the four fans I need. It also wont fit the hyper 212+ that I was planning on getting shortly after posting this topic.

    Your CPU:
You do realize I'd have to hunt down another motherboard if I got an AMD? Not to mention it's discontinued.

    Your GPU:
I'm not gonna cut 50% the power off my current GPU choice for a 20% in savings. Not to mention I'm red team.

This will also be my third time building a computer.
    Butts.

Oh gosh I didn't see that last row. I was going to recommend that or the hyper 212 evo, best price for performance

    No overclocking?

Sandy Bridge i5 2500K is only 209.99 this weekend. For $20 more than that, you could go with the Ivy Bridge 3570K.

Or better yet, 2500k is 199.98 through Amazon. 3570K is 215.99.

OR EVEN BETTER, if you can drive to a Micro Center: $159.99 + tax for 2500K, $189.99 + tax for 3570K.

I'm planning months ahead, so any sales or whatever won't matter. Some parts would probably be changed out over the course. I also don't plan on OCing.

Also micro center doesn't exist in arizona.

Changed the DVD drive to one that doesn't have white text and labels on the front, so it looks better with the case. No price increase

I've the antec 300 for my build and for a system like you're building I would probably go for something a bit bigger/beefier. Maybe that's just me.
